It's a Doctor Who game that fans of the series will appreciate, especially with the number of Easter eggs contained within it and trademark "Eureka" moments earned from investigations, while newcomers will enjoy the surprisingly high quality of this head-scratching game's production values. Still going strong after 10 years, this is one trek that makes good use of a classic IP.ĭoctor Who: The Lonely Assassins Doctor Who: The Lonely AssassinsĪll of time and space, every star that ever was…where would you like to start first? If you're hopping into Doctor Who: The Lonely Assassins, that journey begins with a link to the not-so-distant past, the return of some of the BBC show's most terrifying villains, and plenty of puzzles to solve as you help UNIT close the book. Like many freemium games, this version of The Oregon Trail requires energy to be spent for any action to be carried out, but the game does provide a generous amount of fuel to burn. A new freemium spin-off title from Gameloft may have had very little to do with the original game, but it's still a fun and well-animated slice of building a settlement that can withstand the dangers of the frontiers. The Oregon Trail The Oregon TrailĪ classic game of a bygone era, the original Oregon Trail was a harsh reminder that no matter how well prepared you were for the wild west frontier, dysentery would likely be the end of you on that harsh trail. ![]() This year has seen a number of great new games debut on iPad and iPhone devices, but which ones were the best? We've rounded up the best 2021 games on iOS according to our sister site Metacritic, with the 10 games below being a solid mix of genres and strong art direction that takes full advantage of Apple's hardware. Or, to put it another way, My Friend Pedro: Ripe for Revenge is still rather green.Mobile games have grown more ambitious over the last few years, with many developers realizing that their titles can easily run on Apple's latest devices thanks to staggering advancements in mobile chip technology. All which makes what should've been a beautifully ballet of violent gymnastics into an awkward slog. It also doesn't help that, in the free version, dying sends you all the way to the beginning of a stage (not surprisingly, the $2.99 Premium version adds checkpoints it's funny how that works). Not only are the movement controls twitchy, and take way too long to get comfortable, but you have to tap your targets, not just the screen, to shoot people, which adds a layer of complexity that undermines the fun. It's just too bad the controls are so awkward that you feel less like Neo from The Matrix and looks more like a cow on roller skates trying to navigate a flight of stairs. It's a good thing you're as skilled with guns as you are with gymnastics, since the bad guys are hiding in places where there's a lot of walls to jump over or bounce off, passageways to run under, and other obstacles that require you to constantly be jumping and flipping while also shooting in mid-flight. ![]() A spin-off of the 2019 game My Friend Pedro, My Friend Pedro: Ripe for Revenge is a side-scrolling shooter in which you have to help your friend - a sentient banana - when his family is kidnapped. Like the original version for Switch and PC, this acrobatic shooter suffers from some serious control issues, but add an annoying greedy streak as well.
