Unfortunately that "course" is all that backtracking and after beating the game three times, you'd have to be pretty dedicated to keep playing it for the sake of playing it.įor an objective "best" one, it's probably 3. Do you make an all-rounder folder that uses all six Souls to moderate effect or do you make one that goes all in on one Soul? And with New Game+ you always had something to do with your ultimate folder full of all the chips you struggled to gather and collect, plus at that point in nearly every map in the game (extend that to every map if you link the two games) has a ghost of one of the bosses as a random battle meant you always had interesting battles at random through the course of the game. The Soul Unisons needing chips to be sacrificed to access the forms that alter your playstyle gave a whole new dynamic to folder creation and imagination. It finally brought to Battle Network what I considered an iconic aspect of Mega Man which is incorporating the boss characters' weapons into your arsenal. I love the battle system based around Soul Unisons. 5 had interesting ideas to expand the experiences particularly with the Liberation Maps but they were too time-consuming if you aren't getting one turn liberations, and locking the V2 and V3 versions of enemies until after the game meant you were grinding all the past areas mindlessly to complete the library and get better folders instead of doing so organically as you were progressing through the story and challenge maps. 4 has the best combat system and New Game+ which meant that your perfect folder that you got at the end of all the challenges meant you'd still have interesting combat to use it on, but about 70% of the game is fetch quests and you need to play the game three times in order to access the "post game" content. 2/3/6 had great stories but the battle system becomes boring once you have some of the busted Program Advances and enough fodder chips that you can junk or burn through. My main thing with Battle Network is that while there are great elements throughout the series, I never thought they had a single title that had a healthy amount of great elements at once.
