4/10/2023 0 Comments A long way home trailerWhen Doctor Strange's spell goes slightly wrong, anyone who knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man (along with some stragglers, like a post-credits scene Venom (Tom Hardy), who popped through to the MCU for a little vacation). Maybe you're wondering how our two Spider-Men got here? Easy enough: same way as all the bad guys. It's so exciting to see him get another chance in what turns out to be a far better movie than either of his first two go-arounds. Neither of his two Amazing Spider-Man movies were all that good, but his portrayal of the character was fantastic his Peter was a little cool for school, but once he got in the suit and started wise-cracking he really was the character. Garfield's Peter might be an even more welcome addition. Maguire's Peter Parker back then was just nerdy and toolish enough to relate to a whole generation of movie-going fans. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man movies set the table for the superhero movies that fans of the genre adore today-compelling villains that pop off the screen and a light tone that isn't afraid to mix humor with its action and drama. I have no argument against the fact that it's a nostalgia ploy, but guess what-it's the kind of nostalgia that really works. One could perhaps make the argument that the inclusion of these two actors (as different versions of our main character) is a cheap nostalgia ploy. There's some great humor too! On more than one occasion, any Spider-Man fan will likely be laughing aloud at the interplay between the three generations of web-slinger. Their roles aren't just brief cameos, either-the two Peter Parkers of old share key, important moments with the MCU Peter Parker (Holland), with purpose for both plot and character building. It takes a while for Garfield and Maguire's versions of Peter Parker to show up in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but from the moment they enter the movie, they're in it for the long haul. I guess Andrew Garfield was excited to see what they were going to do with the next Spider-Man movie because.he's in it! ( Vulture actually recapped all the denials in the lead-up to the movie's release in what is simply a tremendous read.) Because I just love them."Īnother strong denial! But do we buy it? Had to go into No Way Home without being entirely sure one way or another.Īre Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man: No Way Home? But I'm really excited to see what they're going to do with the next movie. "Is Andrew Garfield playing Spider-Man again?" the actor read in perhaps his final denial before No Way Home's release, a WIRED Autocomplete YouTube video. If the villains are coming, surely the heroes are too, right?īut the denials just kept coming. Spider-Man fans were convinced, and were even more convinced when No Way Home revealed in its trailers that villains from past franchises-including Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Alfred Molina's Doc Ock-would be returning, entering the MCU through a multiversal portal of sorts. It always just felt like, you know, they might be in the darn movie. Also, it kind of feels like Tobey Maguire might be. But is Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home? Kinda feels like he might be. Sure, Andrew Garfield is saying that Andrew Garfield isn't in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Yet it still never felt quite believable. Tobey Maguire hasn't been in a live-action movie since 2014's Pawn Sacrifice, so he was spared from the press circuit's relentless questions (and for our purposes, we don't need anyone to count up his denials). That seems like a lot of work, so maybe someone else can check just how many times Tom Holland said that both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire would not be appearing in the film he'd remain the lone Spidey. Somebody with more free time than I have is going to need to run through the archives and check just how many times Andrew Garfield said that he wasn't going to be appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home (Throughout 2021, he was promoting three different movies: Mainstream, The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and, and was asked about his web-slinging while doing press for each one). The following story obviously contains massive spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
